about

Sub - diurnum.
"a the sun".
That's the literal meaning of the word, sojourn.
To sojourn is to temporarily stay somewhere while traveling to a destination.
A Diaspora necessitates a sojourn or perhaps more accurately invites us to participate in our own "sojourns" plural.

The existential exodus that anticipates an arrival and longs for home is tangible and yet the irony is that life is transitory......it is in flux and moves, yet we are tethered to and fettered by our conditioning and corrupted...ness.
This is the cyclical Sisyphean condition everyone is exposed to, infected with. I've read where some theologians refer to this tension as the "All ready/but not yet".
We long for home because home is woven into our nature as a species and yet HOME eludes us. However, in a twist and turn of irony all of everything alludes to something more than this orphaned absurdity. So we travel. We sojourn a thousand sojourns traveling with questions, looking for where we might fit or belong or be loved or find home.

Am I of this?
Is this of me?
Is this beautiful?
Is this true?
Is this home?

Act 2. The Sojourn was written during a very tumultuous time in my personal life. I was very ill and manifesting the worst parts of my struggle with mental illness and addiction. I'm unclear even now how many sojourns I've had as I pick up the pieces, collect myself and continue to fall forward on my Sojourn.

The Quran simply states that, "We are all returning." I'm not finished in these cyclical departures and returns. In my mind we must be moving. There is a blessing in the curse. To be without a home and in travel and to say that this is my portion......it is my belief that it is this state of existential emptying that can lead one to Zion. It is my hope we are emptied individually and collectively. It is my belief that home....that Zion can be found there, in the thin places between here and there........ because we are returning.
